Job summary

Smithfield Packaged Meats Corp is seeking skilled Maintenance Technicians to perform repair and troubleshooting on a variety of food processing equipment in a fast-paced plant environment. The role includes preventative maintenance, belt/gear replacements, and alignments, with opportunities for growth and relocation support.

All applicants should have a high school diploma or GED and the ability to read, write, and communicate in English.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and troubleshoot food processing equipment including sizers, stuffers, vacuum pumps, packaging machinery, conveyors, slicers, injectors, microwaves and hydraulic units.
  • Replace belts, sprockets, gears, chains and valves.
  • Rebuild valves, pumps and gearboxes.
  • Troubleshoot pneumatic and hydraulic machine problems and repair as needed.
  • Repair machine guarding, bolt replacements and other wear-related breakdowns.
  • Weld machine components as required.
  • Perform Preventative Maintenance like lubrication of parts, drives, chains.
  • Installations including hooking up air, water, gas and alignment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Crew Leader and Supervisor.

Core Responsibilities
  • Performs repair and troubleshooting on food processing equipment to include, but not be limited to: Sizers, stuffers, vacuum pumps, vacuum packaging machinery, conveyors, slicers, injectors, microwaves and hydraulic units.
  • Replacement of belts, sprockets, gears, chains and valves.
  • Rebuild of valves, pumps and gearboxes.
  • Troubleshoot pneumatic and hydraulic machine problems and make necessary repairs.
  • Performs repairs to machines involving machine guarding, bolt replacement and breakdowns due to mechanical wear.
  • Welding of machine components.
  • Preventative Maintenance tasks, such as lubricating of parts, drives, chains, etc.
  • Installations to include hooking up air, water, gas and alignment and leveling of equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Crew Leader and Supervisor.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
  • Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Must have good mechanical aptitude.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English.

Noise level is loud in the production area and hearing protection is always required. Must be able to lift up to 60lbs.
