Overview

Reporting to the Skilled Crafts Trades Supervisor in the Facilities Services Maintenance Department, the Lead Sheet Metal Welder performs journey‑level work related to the fabrication, assembly, installation, and repair of sheet metal products and equipment. The role includes day‑to‑day operations, leadership, training, supervision, and safety compliance within the Maintenance Services department at UCR’s Main Campus.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate, assemble, install, and repair sheet metal products and equipment.
• Oversee critical day‑to‑day operations in the supervisor’s absence.
• Operate and train others on fabrication machines, equipment, methods, and materials for welding operations.
• Perform project estimating for time, labor, and materials; place orders and receive materials.
• Maintain accurate documentation of inspections, testing, and corrective/preventative maintenance.
• Review and update shop logs (paper and electronic) and maintain shop records.
• Review, create, and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications for new construction and retrofit/renovation projects per building code requirements.
• Respond to emergency situations during or after hours to mitigate and correct safety issues.
• Perform all duties in adherence with University and departmental safety guidelines.
• Maintain a positive attitude and communicate effectively with colleagues, supervisors, staff, faculty, and students.

Salary & Schedule

Annual salary range: $93,772 – $105,569. Hourly range: $44.91 – $50.56. Full‑time (100%) position with a schedule of 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM.
