Job summary

UC San Diego’s Residential, Retail and Supply Chain Services (RRSS) seeks a Maintenance Assistant to perform semi-skilled tasks across building upkeep, safety equipment, and minor repairs. You may work independently or with a crew, installing fixtures, repairing doors, pipes, and painting prep.

Requires reliable vehicle operation, ability to follow instructions, strong safety awareness, and customer-friendly communication. Overtime may be required.

Qualifications

• Ability to troubleshoot mechanical problems and make adjustments or repairs.
• Technical ability to learn and use a computer and handle devices to communicate via email and complete MAXIMO work orders.
• Knowledge and ability to use hand tools and equipment common to the building maintenance trade.
• Experience requesting supplies, maintaining inventory, and controlling stock for assigned areas.
• Demonstrated skill in setting priorities in a changing work environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform semi-skilled and unskilled maintenance tasks on buildings and equipment.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Perform a variety of semi-skilled and unskilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of buildings and related facilities and equipment. May work independently, as part of a regular maintenance crew, or as an assistant to a skilled tradesman. Duties include but are not limited to: installing fire extinguishers and blackboards; cleaning roofs and patio drains, piping, clearing stoppages in sinks and toilets; doing preparatory work for painting projects including washing walls, filling in or smoothing surfaces, masking areas and setting up scaffolding; painting markings on asphalt, concrete floors and similar surfaces; replacing door closers, locks, latches, hinges and other building hardware; making minor repairs to office furniture and equipment; making repairs to fences and gates; operating and maintaining a variety of power and hand tools of the various trades. May drive a truck or other vehicle in the course of duty.

QUALIFICATIONS

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $55,729 - $70,721 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $26.69 - $33.87

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
