Job summary

City of Alexandria is seeking a Laborer III in Sewer Maintenance to perform heavy manual tasks, lead crews in the supervisor's absence, and assist with sewer system maintenance and street repairs. The role requires CDL and at least three years of related experience.

The ideal candidate will be able to work in all weather conditions, coordinate with residents, and use Cityworks for work orders and reporting. This position is covered under AFSCME - Labor & Trades.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Three years of semi-skilled/skilled maintenance or construction experience.
• Three years’ experience as lead worker in related trades or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist in installation, repair, and maintenance of sewer mains, hydrants, and gate valves.
• Operate Vacuum Truck, CCTV, and Jetter Truck with inspection and flushing of sewers.
• Lead a crew in sewer maintenance tasks when supervisor is absent.
• Operate heavy equipment such as dump trucks and backhoes.
• Respond to inquiries from residents regarding Public Works services.
• Contribute to street repairs and sidewalk restoration as needed.
• Inspect manholes to assess condition and locate blockages.
• Use heavy tools to repair water and sewer lines.
• Load de-icing materials during snow operations as directed.
• Perform daily team/customer interactions and document work orders in Cityworks.
• Respond to emergencies including call-back and overtime when required.
