We are seeking an experienced Field Service Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer to support the installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and ongoing service of industrial water treatment systems and equipment.
This individual will play a key role in supporting customers in the field, ensuring instrumentation, electrical, and control systems operate reliably and efficiently. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in water treatment, hands-on experience with PLC-based control systems, and the ability to independently diagnose and resolve technical issues at customer sites.
This is a hands-on technical position suited for an experienced Field Service Engineer or Lead Service Technician who understands industrial water treatment processes and is comfortable working with instrumentation, automation, and control systems. While PLC programming knowledge is important, the position does not require developing PLC programs from scratch. The primary focus will be troubleshooting, modifying, configuring, and supporting existing control systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform field service, troubleshooting, maintenance, and commissioning of industrial water treatment equipment and systems.
- Diagnose and resolve instrumentation, electrical, and control system issues at customer facilities.
- Troubleshoot and support PLC-based control systems, including Allen-Bradley / Rockwell Automation platforms.
- Support existing PLC programs through troubleshooting, configuration, and minor modifications as needed.
- Test, calibrate, and verify instrumentation, including flow meters, pressure transmitters, pH analyzers, conductivity meters, and other process instrumentation.
- Troubleshoot control panels, VFDs, motor starters, sensors, and associated electrical components.
- Support system startup, commissioning, functional testing, and equipment optimization.
- Identify root causes of equipment and process issues and implement effective corrective actions.
- Work directly with customers to provide technical support, training, and recommendations.
- Collaborate with internal engineering, project management, and service teams to ensure successful project execution.
- Maintain accurate service reports, technical documentation, and commissioning records.
- Promote safe work practices and ensure compliance with applicable industry standards and site safety requirements.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in field service, instrumentation and controls, industrial automation, or a related technical discipline.
- Previous experience working within the water and wastewater treatment industry is strongly preferred.
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting PLC-based control systems, preferably Allen-Bradley / Rockwell Automation.
- Working knowledge of PLC programming and the ability to troubleshoot, navigate, and make modifications to existing programs.
- Experience with industrial instrumentation, electrical systems, control panels, and process equipment.
- Familiarity with VFDs, motor controls, sensors, transmitters, and industrial communication protocols.
- Ability to independently troubleshoot complex technical issues and work effectively in customer-facing environments.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
- Willingness and ability to travel approximately 25% of the time, with travel potentially reaching 50%.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with industrial water treatment technologies, including filtration, reverse osmosis, chemical dosing, and related treatment processes.
- Experience with SCADA systems, HMI platforms, and industrial control networks.
- Familiarity with Allen-Bradley Studio 5000, RSLogix, FactoryTalk, Siemens, or comparable control platforms.
- Previous experience commissioning, servicing, or maintaining packaged water treatment systems.
- Experience serving as a Lead Field Service Technician, Senior Service Technician, or Field Service Engineer.
