Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in EE, control systems, mechatronics, or related field.
  • Texas Professional Engineer license preferred.
  • 5–10 years of experience in electrical systems, automation, or water infrastructure.
  • Experience with PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, and industrial communications.

Responsibilities

  • Assist design of low- and medium-voltage electrical systems for water facilities.
  • Support PLC/HMI programming under supervision.
  • Develop and review electrical drawings, specs, and documentation.
  • Support instrumentation layouts, loop diagrams, and wiring schematics.
  • Collaborate with project teams for cost estimates and reports.

Position Summary

The Electrical & SCADA Engineer will support the design, implementation, commissioning, operation, and optimization of electrical, instrumentation, control, and SCADA systems for water and wastewater treatment facilities, pumping stations, desalination plants, water reuse facilities, and related infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities
Electrical Engineering Support
  • Assist with the design of low- and medium-voltage electrical systems for water and wastewater facilities.
  • Support power distribution layouts, motor control centers (MCCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), standby generators, and electrical equipment selection.
  • Prepare electrical calculations, single-line diagrams, panel schedules, and technical specifications.
  • Review electrical drawings, vendor submittals, and equipment documentation.
  • Support electrical system troubleshooting and performance evaluations.
Instrumentation & Controls
  • Assist in the selection and specification of instrumentation, including:
    • Flow meters
    • Pressure transmitters
    • Level sensors
    • Analytical instruments
    • Water quality monitoring equipment
  • Support the development of control narratives and functional descriptions.
  • Assist with instrumentation layouts, loop diagrams, and wiring schematics.
SCADA & Automation
  • Support the development and maintenance of SCADA systems for treatment plants and remote facilities.
  • Assist with PLC and HMI programming under senior engineering supervision.
  • Participate in integration of field instrumentation, communication networks, and control systems.
  • Support remote monitoring and operational reporting systems.
  • Assist in troubleshooting automation, communication, and control issues.
Project Support
  • Work closely with mechanical, process, civil, and operations teams.
  • Participate in project meetings and design reviews.
  • Assist with cost estimates, procurement evaluations, and technical reports.
  • Support preparation of engineering deliverables and project documentation.
Operations Support
  • Participate in site inspections.
  • Assist in evaluating equipment performance and reliability.
  • Support maintenance and asset management initiatives.
  • Analyze operational data and prepare technical recommendations.
  • Contribute to process improvement and energy efficiency projects.
  • Assist with equipment startup, commissioning, and operational testing.
  • Support troubleshooting and optimization efforts during plant startup and operation.
Required Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field from an accredited university.
  • Preferable License Texas PE
Experience
  • 5-10 years of professional experience.
  • Experience in electrical systems, automation, industrial controls, utilities, manufacturing, or water infrastructure is preferred.
Technical Skills
  • Understanding of electrical engineering principles.
  • Familiarity with industrial control systems and automation.
  • Knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and industrial communications.
  • Understanding of motor controls and power distribution systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, Revit, or similar CAD software.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Exposure to water treatment, wastewater treatment, desalination, or industrial process facilities.
  • Familiarity with SCADA platforms such as:
    • Ignition
    • Wonderware/AVEVA
    • FactoryTalk
    • VTScada
    • ClearSCADA
  • Exposure to PLC platforms such as:
    • Allen-Bradley (Rockwell)
    • Siemens
    • Schneider Electric
  • Basic knowledge of industrial communication protocols:
    • Modbus
    • Ethernet/IP
    • Profinet
    • DNP3
    • OPC-UA
  • Familiarity with NFPA, NEC, IEEE, and ISA standards.
