City of Hope Orange County Security Officer Job Description

City of Hope Orange County is transforming cancer treatment by bringing world-class expertise and specialized care closer to home. Supported by a regional network of care, our 11-acre academic cancer campus in Irvine is home to the City of Hope Orange County Lennar Foundation Cancer Center, our outpatient cancer center, and Orange County's only cancer specialty hospital, opening in late 2025.

With the opening of the hospital, the full continuum of advanced cancer care—from prevention through survivorship—will be available in Orange County for the first time, eliminating the need to travel for lifesaving treatment. The new clinical research hospital will feature 73 inpatient beds, advanced surgical suites, groundbreaking clinical trials, and holistic services such as rehabilitative therapy and spiritual care. This isn't standard cancer care. This is lifesaving cancer care. This is Hope.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a professional with qualifications and demonstrated experience at a lead level in a similar environment, or a strong background in security, emergency management, or related fields. The ideal candidate will have specialized knowledge and experience in security operations, security systems, parking enforcement, and will assist in developing and implementing strategies and policies related to these areas.

Key Responsibilities:

Daily Operations:

• Lead security officers on shift, operations center operators, and badge access personnel. Responsible for security across the City of Hope campus, including clinical and non-clinical buildings and offsite locations.
• Supervise daily security systems and processes, including locks, access control, CCTV, alarms, traffic management, investigations, event management, permit and public parking, and infringement processing. Ensure security services meet standards, are within budget, and adhere to timelines while maintaining effective relationships with organizational clients. Use two-way radio communication effectively.

Operations Management:

• Investigate criminal activities and sensitive matters with potential reputational impact. Recommend risk mitigation strategies, inform management, and ensure cost-effective outcomes. Collaborate with senior management, police, and regulatory bodies.
• Coordinate initial responses to emergencies on the main campus, working closely with senior management and emergency services.

Budget Management:

• Assist in developing and managing the annual security budgets, ensuring targets are met or exceeded.
• Motivate and coach staff to achieve objectives, providing performance feedback and documenting outcomes for management review.

Business Continuity and Process Improvement:

• Assist in reviewing and updating the Security Operations Business Continuity Plan and participate in drills and exercises.
• Prepare reports for committees and leadership, conduct investigations, maintain safety records, and recommend improvements.

Qualifications:

• Associate's Degree or equivalent; experience may substitute for education.
• Minimum of five years of security experience, preferably in a hospital setting.
• Required Courses/Training: AB5O8/Workplace Violence, FEMA Emergency Management (preferred), HICS Basics (preferred).
• Certifications: Current CA Driver's License, Guard Registration, Pepper Spray Permit, CPR certification within three months of hire.

• Multiple positions and shifts available: Mid Shift (1500-2330), Night Shift (2300-0730).
• Compensation based on experience, qualifications, and location.
