Job summary

The Lead Scientist at SUPERWOOD leads the materials science and chemistry behind a molecularly densified wood material, from bench to production. This on-site role in Frederick, MD partners with R&D, production, and external labs to ensure robust material performance and certification readiness.

You will design studies, supervise engineers and scientists, and translate experimental results into defensible evidence for stakeholders, certification bodies, and customers.

Qualifications

• PhD or MS with evidence of owning a technical area and directing others in R&D.
• Experience with experimental characterization and test standards is essential.
• Fluent English and ability to work onsite in Frederick, MD.

Responsibilities

• Owns the program area and translates R&D priorities into a sequenced experimental plan.
• Owns materials characterization via mechanical testing, moisture behavior, density, and fire performance.
• Develops methods and protocols for repeatable experiments.
• Leads root-cause analysis and process optimization on the production line.
