Job summary

Qualifications

• Total experience: 3 years including supervisory experience and general custodial work.
• Experience in janitorial, grounds maintenance, or general labor.
• For School Custodian III and above, at least one year of comparable experience.

Responsibilities

• Directs work of subordinates providing custodial services for the school.
• Assigns, lays out, inspects and supervises the work to keep buildings and grounds clean and orderly.
• Performs more difficult maintenance work on plumbing, electrical fixtures, and woodwork not requiring journey worker skills.
• Supervises custodial staff preparing for special school functions.
• Maintains cleaning and operational maintenance of special school equipment (e.g., swimming pools, auditoriums, loudspeaker systems).
• Supervises or participates in propagation and cultivation of flowers, plants and lawns.
• Requisitions, receives, stores and inventories janitorial supplies and equipment; maintains records of supplies and equipment dispensed.
• Makes reports on work accomplished and unusual happenings or accidents; keeps daily time sheets.
• Has security responsibility for the school; turns night lights on and off at the proper hours.
• May supervise student help when assigned; may operate power equipment such as power lawn mowers.
