Job summary

Hawaii State Department of Education is seeking a Janitor II to perform a range of custodial duties across school facilities. The role involves sweeping, mopping, cleaning restrooms, and maintaining cleanliness of classrooms and common areas.

Training is provided, and there are opportunities to assist with basic repairs and inventory of supplies. The position emphasizes reliability, physical stamina, and the ability to work as part of a facilities team, ensuring a safe and clean learning

Qualifications

• No experience is required; training may be provided.
• Janitorial or related custodial work such as sweeping, dusting and cleaning of buildings.
• Grounds maintenance work experience including watering, fertilizing, trimming, mowing, sweeping and raking.

Responsibilities

• Sweep and mop floors, hallways, stairways and classrooms.
• Wipe, dust and polish furniture and metal work.
• Clean woodwork, walls, venetian blinds, electrical fixtures and windows.
• Mop, clean, disinfect and service lavatories and restrooms.
• Water fountains and wash basins.
• Move and transport heavy objects such as office furniture and supplies.
• Load, unload and distribute school and janitorial supplies and equipment.
• Replace toilet floats, faucets and light bulbs; perform simple repairs.
• Operate cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, scrubbing machines and floor polishers.
