Job summary

Elk River Independent School District 728 seeks a Head Custodian for the Elementary School, day shift, 8 hours daily, year-round. The role supervises custodial staff and coordinates custodial duties under the Manager of Operations - Custodial or site Administrator.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, valid driver's license, and ability to operate building systems. Knowledge of Facility Management System (FMS) is desirable. Wages are per the district master agreement.

Qualifications

• High school degree, GED, or equivalent.
• Possess and maintain valid driver's license, with class stipulated by the School District.
• Possess and maintain valid certifications and licenses, as stipulated by the School District and/or regulatory agencies, to operate building equipment.
• Be able to read, understand and write instructions associated with the equipment and supplies used and prepare reports.
• Ability to work outside or inside in all weather conditions.
• Must be a self-starter and able to produce work with minimum supervision.
• Must be willing and able to work hours other than the regular shift including overtime.
• Regularly able to lift objects in excess of fifty pounds.
• Ability to climb ladders to a minimum height of twelve feet.
• No allergies to chemicals.
• Pass physical examination, if required.
• Knowledge of Facility Management System (FMS) desirable.
• Ability to supervise and give work direction to custodians.
• 1–3 years experience as a Lead Custodian desirable.
• For current members of the custodial collective bargaining agreement, a First Class C - Low Pressure Boiler's License or the ability to obtain this license within 110 days following appointment.
• For new hires not covered by the custodial collective bargaining agreement, a First Class C - Low Pressure Boiler's License or the ability to obtain this license within 170 days following appointment.

Responsibilities

• Perform all duties normally associated with the position of custodian; cleaning and maintenance to ensure a safe environment.
• General maintenance and repair of equipment in the building to meet district needs.
• General maintenance and repair of playground areas to meet district needs.
• Reporting and elimination of hazards observed; correct as necessary to ensure a safe environment.
• Conservation of fuel, electricity, water, and equipment by observation and correction of improper operation of equipment or systems.
• Lock and unlock buildings according to the schedule for the area.
• Pick up scrap paper and debris and dispose of waste in proper containers for a safe, clean environment.
• Operate and schedule Facility Management System (FMS).
• Responsible for cleaning and maintenance of buildings from 5,000 to 150,000 sq ft in size.
• Supervise and provide work direction to 1 to 6 regular employees and others as assigned.
• Make periodic inspections to ensure proper operation of building and grounds.
• Maintain records and instruct employees on health and safety issues.
• Prepare and submit reports as required.
• Other job related duties as assigned.
