Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; one year cooking/baking experience in large quantities as required by Kentucky law.
• Must complete training course for certification of beginning school food personnel per 702 KAR 6:045.
• Experience in quantity food service and school meal operations is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, cook, bake and serve a variety of foods in quantity at an assigned school site.
• Assist in other food preparation duties and maintain a clean, sanitary kitchen and cafeteria.
• Train and provide work direction to others as directed.
• Prepare baked goods such as rolls, biscuits, breads, cakes and cookies and other items.
• Cook meat, vegetables, salads, sandwiches, fruit, soups and sauces as needed.
• Monitor temperatures for safety and quality; ensure proper sanitation standards.
• Serve and replenish meals; handle money and assist with inventory records.
• Clean equipment, utensils, refrigerators and storerooms; follow safety procedures.
• Store unused food properly and dispose of leftovers according to rules.
• Operate kitchen machines including slicer, mixer, steamer, fryer and oven.
• Assist with special events and banquets when required.
• Record foods prepared and quantities sold; maintain routine records.
