Job summary

Vulcan Elements in Durham, NC (moving to Benson, NC) is seeking a SCADA/HMI Platform Engineer to lead the selection and end-to-end ownership of the platform for a massive 1 million sq ft manufacturing expansion. You will author standards, design the supervisory architecture, and own acceptance over all HMI/SCADA deliverables.

The role requires architecture-level ownership, hands-on experience with Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Ignition, and OPC UA, plus ISA-18.2 alarm management, to deliver reliable

Qualifications

• 7+ years of direct industrial automation and SCADA/HMI experience.
• Hands-on experience programming and commissioning Siemens, Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Ignition HMIs and PLCs.
• Platform ownership on Ignition, FactoryTalk View/Optix, AVEVA System Platform, or comparable platforms.
• ISA-18.2 alarm management and high-performance HMI design practice.
• Proficiency with Ethernet/IP, Profinet, EtherCAT, OPC UA, and similar plant-data standards.

Responsibilities

• Configure and maintain communications between PLCs/HMIs and MES/SCADA; own tag/UDT standards, alarm philosophy, historian data acquisition, and reliability.
• Lead screen and configuration acceptance for OEM/integrator deliverables, verified at FAT/SAT.
• Serve as senior escalation point for diagnosing SCADA, historian, and plant-data issues.
• Design OEE, downtime data interfaces, and alarm performance KPI reporting.
• Lead SCADA/historian platform evaluation, requirements, and proofs-of-concept.
• Stand up SCADA/historian environments ahead of site acceptance testing; manage system-integrator staff.
• Define historian collection standards with Manufacturing Data & MES Engineering.
