Job description

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer – Launch Operations to join our team in Midland, TX. In this role, you’ll play a key part in preparing spacecraft for launch by leading final electrical integration and testing of satellites. You’ll work closely with internal engineering teams, launch vehicle providers, and ground support personnel. This is a hands-on position at launch sites, ensuring satellites are safely tested and integrated with the launch vehicle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead satellite integration efforts and serve as the on-site electrical engineering representative during launch operations.
  • Perform final integration and testing of satellites at launch sites.
  • Work directly with launch vehicle providers and ground support teams to ensure all interface and electrical requirements are met.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during pre-launch preparations.
  • Ensure proper and safe use of electrical ground support equipment (EGSE).
  • Maintain compliance with safety, quality, and launch provider standards.
  • Track project deliverables and maintain detailed documentation of launch site activities.
  • Provide technical guidance and promote engineering best practices.
  • Collaborate with systems, electrical, and software engineers to support integrated operations and resolve issues.
  • Work closely with mission assurance teams to verify system readiness.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace or Electrical Engineering or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • At least 5 years of experience in satellite integration and testing.
  • Experience with environmental testing and spaceflight hardware.
  • Proficiency with engineering tools such as MATLAB, Python, and GitLab.
  • Strong understanding of launch site safety procedures and environmental controls.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work in high-pressure environments and travel domestically and internationally for launch campaigns, sometimes for extended periods.
  • U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency required.
  • Must be able to pass a background check to access an active U.S. military base.

Compensation:

  • Salary range is $146,000 to $165,000 (based on years of experience and education)
  • The position includes a comprehensive benefits package with medical, dental, vision, 401(k), paid time off, federal holidays, and sick leave.
