Job summary

The City of Charlotte is seeking a Sanitation Equipment Operator to operate rear-end loading sanitation vehicles for residential and commercial waste collection. The role may require leading a small crew and overseeing daily tasks from dawn to completion.

Hours are typically 6:30am until completion, with a premium on safety, reliability, and adherence to traffic laws. The position requires a valid CDL and the ability to perform manual labor in varying conditions.

Qualifications

• Three years related driving experience, operating heavy equipment.
• Must have a valid Class A or B CDL.
• Ability to lift and carry 100 lbs.
• Must be able to work nights, weekends or unusual hours.
• Ability to read and follow street maps & driving routes.

Responsibilities

• Operate a rear-end loading sanitation vehicle to collect residential waste, yard waste, and debris.
• Daily inspection of assigned equipment for readiness and safety.
• Perform related manual labor tasks such as lifting and emptying containers and litter pickup.
• May serve as lead person to a crew of two or more.
