Job summary

APTIM seeks a mid-level Safety and Industrial Hygiene Professional to lead health and safety programs in a multidisciplinary R&D lab environment in the Seattle area. You will operate under a Senior Safety Professional, guiding lab personnel, executing technical work, and mentoring a junior IH professional to translate safety requirements into practical, research-friendly solutions.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in industrial hygiene or closely related field.
8–12 years of relevant safety/industrial hygiene experience.
Experience supporting R&D laboratories, biotech or similar technically complex environments.
Strong knowledge of occupational safety and health principles and laboratory chemical hazards.
Experience with IH sampling methods and monitoring equipment.
Ability to work onsite in Seattle area at least three days per week and travel locally.

Responsibilities

Provide day-to-day laboratory safety and industrial hygiene support under the direction of a Senior Safety Professional, including inspections, risk assessments, exposure evaluations, corrective action tracking, and technical consultation.
Evaluate R&D activities and recommend practical engineering, administrative and PPE controls.
Plan and conduct IH assessments and sampling, prepare technical reports for senior review.
Support IH work such as exposure assessments, air monitoring, risk assessments, hazard evaluations, control recommendations, and regulatory compliance support.
Evaluate workplace environments for potential chemical, physical, and biological hazards.
Maintain and update laboratory SOPs, job hazard analyses, inspection checklists, training materials, and emergency-response procedures.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior safety professionals, review work products, and support OSHA compliance.
