Job summary

Astrolab, The Lunar Operations Company, seeks a Lead Rover Navigation and Perception Engineer in Hawthorne, CA. You will lead design, testing and validation of navigation and perception for extraterrestrial rovers, working with flight software to implement algorithms.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in STEM field or equivalent experience.
10+ years designing navigation and perception systems for rovers or autonomous platforms.
Experience with sensor fusion and Kalman filtering across modalities (IMU, lidar, radar, etc.).

Responsibilities

Lead a small team of engineers to design, verify, and test localization and perception systems for rovers.
Drive navigation and perception solutions from design through flight operations on an aggressive schedule for CLV-1 lunar rover.
Collaborate with software team to implement and test navigation, perception, and obstacle avoidance flight software.
Ensure robustness and upgradability of rover navigation/perception in flight and test environments.
Design and execute test campaigns with real sensors and flight computers in simulated lunar conditions.
Ensure compliance with performance and NASA requirements for navigation and perception.
