Job summary

STR is seeking a Principal Engineer in Arlington, VA to develop state-of-the-art RF sensing and electronic warfare algorithms. You will lead multidisciplinary teams across STR campuses, mentor researchers, and transition research into operational prototypes, working with customers to address national security needs.

Ideal candidates have 8–12+ years in radar/EW or related defense tech, strong skills in MATLAB, Python, and C/C++, and the ability to obtain security clearances.

Qualifications

  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain security clearance.
  • 8–12+ years of relevant experience depending on education and demonstrated expertise.
  • Experience on EW or radar programs with development of signal- and data-processing algorithms from derivation through testing and verification.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, and C/C++.
  • Strong mathematical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead multidisciplinary technical teams across STR campuses.
  • Architect advanced RF sensing and EW algorithms from concept to operational prototype.
  • Engage with customers to understand missions and shape technical approaches and program plans.
  • Mentor junior researchers and provide technical direction across programs.
  • Transition new technologies from research to deployment in prototypes.
  • Support business development and lead proposals shaping future technical direction.
