Job description

UPMC Western Maryland is seeking a Full-time Lead Respiratory Therapist, RRT.

This is an evening/night shift position that includes rotating weekends and holidays.

This position is eligible for up to a $20,000 sign-on bonus with a 2-year commitment for eligible candidates.

*Candidate will be placed in the appropriate job title based on education and experience. Pay rates shown are for the Lead Respiratory Therapist, RRT role.

Responsibilities include:

• Completing 2 approved projects from the department's Project List during each annual review period.
• Coordinating scheduling needs, directing shift assignments, resolving problems, and ensuring compliance with hospital and department policies.
• Functioning as a supervisor as needed.
• Coaching new therapists and students during orientation and training.
• Participating in staff and student evaluations.
• Contributing to quality improvement activities and special projects.
• Assisting with planning and implementing clinical research activities.
• Performing duties of a Sr. Respiratory Therapist, including reading prescriptions, measuring arterial blood gases, assessing patient conditions, and determining treatment requirements.
• Operating respiratory therapy equipment and ensuring safety and efficiency.
• Monitoring patient responses and performing procedures such as bronchopulmonary drainage and breathing exercises.
• Performing pulmonary function tests and consulting with physicians on adverse reactions.
• Maintaining patient charts and ordering equipment repairs.
• Supervising students and demonstrating procedures.
• Transporting mechanically ventilated patients and responding to code situations.
• Managing departmental resources, participating in equipment evaluation, and maintaining maintenance records.
