Spaulding Hospital-Cambridge, Inc. seeks a Respiratory Therapist to provide active clinical care for critically ill patients, assess data, and guide therapy decisions in coordination with the medical team.

You will initiate tests, respond to emergencies, and help plan and adjust treatments while educating students and staff. Workplace is onsite at 1575 Cambridge Street with standard 40-hour weeks.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy required or Bachelor's in Respiratory Therapy preferred.
  • Massachusetts Board of Respiratory Care licensure or eligibility required.
  • Heartsaver CPR/AED preferred by American Heart Association.
  • 3–5 years of Respiratory Therapy experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Initiates and assists with respiratory tests and procedures as ordered.
  • Responds to respiratory emergencies and transports ventilated patients as needed.
  • Develops care plans and makes recommendations to physicians.
  • Schedules treatments and participates in bedside rounds.
  • Administers therapy per policies and updates documentation.
  • Educates students, physicians, staff, and patients/families.

Job Summary

Acts as an active member of the patient care team to provide clinical patient care assessment, initiation, modification, and discontinuance of therapeutic respiratory care procedures to critically ill patients. Analyzes and evaluates clinical patient data to determine the appropriate therapy or interventions and makes recommendations on patient care plans to the medical staff.

Essential Functions
  • Initiates and/or assists with appropriate respiratory tests and procedures, as ordered, to deliver appropriate care to patients.
  • Responds to respiratory emergencies and transports mechanically ventilated patients when moved from units for tests and procedures.
  • Prepares appropriate care plan, and makes specific recommendations to physician for indicated therapy.
  • Schedules patient treatments as necessary and provides consultation as an active member of the patient care team.
  • Manages the administration of all aspects of respiratory therapy according to respiratory care policies and procedures.
  • Makes regular bedside rounds and administers Respiratory Care modalities to assigned patients.
  • Modifies treatment care plan according to clinical picture and response to therapy.
  • Participates in education of students, physicians, staff, and patients/families.
  • Clinically supervises respiratory therapy students in the patient areas.
Qualifications
Education

Associate's Degree Respiratory Therapy required or Bachelor's Degree Respiratory Therapy preferred

Licenses and Credentials

Respiratory Therapist [Massachusetts] - Massachusetts Board of Respiratory Care required Heartsaver CPR AED [CPR] - American Heart Association (AHA) preferred

Experience

Experience Respiratory Therapy Experience 3-5 years required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of respiratory therapy practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of relevant equipment and supplies used in respiratory care, as well as ability to ensure that equipment is properly maintained and updated as needed.
  • Skills in collaboration and communication, including ability to work effectively with other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care for patients.
  • Skills in patient and family education, including ability to develop and deliver educational materials and programs that help parents and caregivers understand respiratory care needs and techniques.
  • Ability to problem solve and think critically to assess complex situations and make informed decisions about patient care.
  • Ability to keep accurate records and documentation.
