Job summary

Thomson Reuters in the United States seeks a Lead Software Engineer for retrieval systems. You will own end-to-end delivery of search projects, lead a squad of 3–5 engineers, and partner with applied scientists to productionize models.

This role relies on evidence-based experiments, scalable AWS-based services, and robust ranking, hybrid retrieval, and RAG workflows for legal, tax, and regulatory content.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in CS, Engineering, or a related field.
• 7+ years building production software, incl. search, retrieval, or ranking systems.
• Proven track record leading technical projects and teams.
• Hands-on experience with OpenSearch or Vespa.
• Strong evidence-driven, production-grade engineering mindset.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end delivery of significant search and retrieval projects.
• Act as technical lead for a squad of 3–5 engineers.
• Partner with applied scientists to productionize models.
• Design and build retrieval architectures, indexing pipelines, and ranking systems.
• Build retrieval infrastructure for agentic AI workflows and APIs.
• Operate production APIs on AWS with reliability and cost discipline.
