Job summary

The City of Abilene, Texas, is seeking an experienced operator to drive refuse collection and recycling vehicles under the Solid Waste Services division. You will complete routes, perform basic vehicle inspections, and maintain records while following safety procedures.

Responsibilities include relief driving, training new employees, and coordinating with supervisors. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and a valid Texas CDL with air brake endorsement, with overtime and weekend

Qualifications

Requires CDL Class A or B with air brake endorsement.
High school diploma or GED is required.
Bloodborne Pathogens and HazCom training within 60 days of employment.
At least 6 months experience operating refuse handling equipment on City of Abilene routes.

Responsibilities

Operate refuse collection and recycling vehicles and other Solid Waste Services equipment.
Dump collected trash at designated dump sites/landfill.
Perform relief driver duties for absent drivers and crew chiefs.
Learn routes, read maps and route sheets to locate destinations.
Record vehicle inspections and required documentation.
Train new Solid Waste employees in safe operation of routes.
Oversee cross-training as needed.
Complete paperwork and reports related to collection services.
