Job summary

SSOE is seeking a Refrigeration Specialist (Engineer) to join the Facilities Mechanical Department in Phoenix, AZ. You will lead refrigeration design efforts for industrial facilities, developing concepts, performing load analyses, and coordinating with cross-disciplines to deliver energy-efficient, code-compliant systems.

The role requires 6+ years in refrigeration design, a Mechanical Engineering degree, and strong collaboration and communication skills to work with clients and project teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• 6+ years of refrigeration system design, engineering, or consulting experience.
• Strong knowledge of industrial and commercial refrigeration systems and equipment.
• Experience with load calculations, piping design, equipment selection, and controls integration.
• Familiarity with IIAR, ASHRAE, IMC, and related standards.
• Proficiency with engineering calculations, design software, and BIM/CAD platforms.
• Excellent communication and collaboration within multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead refrigeration engineering on facility design projects from concept through construction.
• Develop system concepts, calculations, specs, and detailed designs for industrial and commercial applications.
• Perform load calculations, modeling, equipment sizing, and energy analyses.
• Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, process, structural, architectural, and controls disciplines.
• Review deliverables for client requirements and codes.
• Support field commissioning, submittals, RFIs, and performance testing.
• Engage with clients to understand requirements and present technical solutions.
