Job summary

Los Alamos National Laboratory seeks a design engineer to advance actinide chemistry, high-temperature metallurgy, and ceramic materials science within the RPS Design Engineering team. You will contribute to heat source pellet design, process optimization, and safety analyses across nuclear programs in LANL's PRRO.

This role requires collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams and clear written communication.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in a STEM field from an accredited institution
• 6 years of related experience
• Thorough training and experience in ceramic engineering or ceramic fabrication
• Analytical thinking and data interpretation skills
• Experience documenting technical results in a formal format
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Strong presentation skills
• Ability to obtain a Q clearance, US citizenship required

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of heat source fuel pellets of various form factors
• Lead improvements and optimization of heat source production processes
• Work with radioactive materials or hazardous materials
• Apply scientific and engineering principles to improve manufacturing processes
• Assist in analysis, validation, implementation and verification of practical solutions
• Assist in writing technical documents and present work at meetings and conferences
