Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque seeks a highly motivated R&D Systems Engineer to serve as the technical lead for the Nuclear Weapons Legacy Hardware Laboratory within Org. 2231.

You will guide technical execution, mission development, and safe, compliant operations for legacy weapon systems and related materials, partnering with NNSA, Sandia teams, and NSE partners. The role involves leading a multidisciplinary team, producing program plans and reports, advancing new mission

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five years of directly relevant experience or equivalent.
  • Active DOE Q-level security clearance or equivalent with ability to obtain Sigma 15 (may require polygraph).

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical lead for Legacy Hardware Lab operations, mission execution, and development.
  • Lead WDDR disposition activities involving legacy weapon systems, hazardous materials, and classified hardware.
  • Provide technical leadership for safe, secure operations involving energetic/radiological materials and other hazardous items.
  • Develop, maintain, and communicate program plans, progress, risks, and deliverables to NNSA customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Prepare monthly reports and program communications for NNSA and Sandia stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with NSE laboratories and partners to advance the NW Legacy Hardware Lab’s mission.
  • Lead a multidisciplinary team and mentor staff to sustain technical capabilities.
