Job summary

IonQ is seeking a Senior Staff Quantum Scientist to lead and shape our research efforts in coherent control and scaling of trapped-ion quantum processors. You will direct experimental work, develop novel control schemes, and drive performance improvements across larger devices.

Applicants should hold a PhD in physics or related field with 7+ years of research experience, and have deep knowledge of quantum control, calibration, and data analysis.

Qualifications

• PhD in physics or closely related discipline or equivalent experience.
• At least seven years of post-PhD experience in academia or industry with leadership capability.
• Proven experience in quantum control, calibration, benchmarking of qubits.

Responsibilities

• Lead prototyping of coherent control schemes for trapped-ion qubits.
• Drive system-level benchmarking and optimisation for near-term devices.
• Validate new trap technologies to support scaling towards error-corrected architectures.
