Job summary

IonQ is seeking a Quantum Scientist to advance our trapped-ion quantum computing research. You will work hands-on with current hardware, design and run experiments, and develop novel control schemes to push qubit performance toward fault-tolerant goals.

The role requires a PhD in physics with a strong AMO or quantum control background, collaboration skills, and proficiency in data analysis and programming. Hybrid work options in the Boulder/Albuquerque area are available.

Qualifications

PhD in physics or related field required; strong foundation in atomic or qubit-related physics.
Hands-on experience in calibration, benchmarking, or coherent control of qubits.
Experience with experimental AMO physics or quantum computing; trapped ions preferred.
Strong programming and data analysis skills; publications and talks expected.

Responsibilities

Prototype and characterize coherent control and cooling schemes for trapped-ion qubits.
Calibrate and benchmark quantum systems; minimize gate errors; optimize performance.
Validate emerging trap technologies, including electronics and photonics for large-scale architectures.
Analyze data, debug hardware/software interactions, ensure reliable qubit operations.
Present results internally and externally, representing IonQ at conferences and collaborations.
