HRL Laboratories, an IBM company, seeks a PhD-level engineer to lead automated cryogenic test pipelines for semiconductor spin-qubit devices and to drive high-yield characterization across multiple hardware platforms.

The role requires deep expertise in cryogenic measurements, data analysis, and cross-functional collaboration to translate results into scalable testing infrastructure and fabrication improvements.

Qualifications

• PhD required in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
• 7+ years of experience in semiconductor yield engineering or quantum-device testing.
• Strong expertise in semiconductor or quantum-device testing and cryogenic measurement methods.
• Experience with materials-based failure analysis and familiarity with fabrication processes.
• Proficiency in Python, SQL, or similar data-analysis and automation tools.
• Ability to document results clearly and communicate technical findings to multidisciplinary teams.
• Expertise with cryogenic test equipment and related measurement workflows.

Responsibilities

• Lead automated cryogenic test pipelines for spin-qubit devices across multiple hardware platforms.
• Analyze electrical measurements across temperature stages and relate results to fabrication processes.
• Design scalable test architectures to improve throughput, repeatability, and yield.
• Investigate device failures and consolidate results into reports with recommendations for fabrication and process engineering.
• Organize and maintain device-test databases, extract metrics, and perform statistical analyses.
• Collaborate with materials, device-design, and process-engineering teams to integrate measurements into models.
• Develop Python- and SQL-based tooling to automate data processing and support scalable testing.
• Communicate findings through presentations, reports, and cross-functional reviews.
