Job summary

HRL Laboratories, an IBM company, conducts cutting-edge research in spin qubits and quantum technologies. The role focuses on designing and executing cryogenic experiments, developing automated tunes, and integrating ML-driven optimization into measurement workflows.

You will build and maintain Python-driven automation for hardware control and data analysis, while collaborating across teams to enhance qubit performance and device development strategies.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering or related field with specialization in quantum devices or quantum technologies.
• Deep understanding of qubit device physics with cryogenic measurement platforms and qubit control systems.
• Strong Python skills for scientific programming, automation, ML workflows, and hardware interfacing.
• Proven ability to lead technical initiatives and drive experimental direction with automated hardware environments.
• Expertise in analog electronics troubleshooting, precision noise analysis and advanced characterization.
• Strong communication via presentations, publications, and technical documentation.

Responsibilities

• Design and run low-noise cryogenic experiments on spin qubit devices.
• Develop automated qubit tuning methodologies to improve scalability and repeatability.
• Integrate advanced characterization techniques and ML-based optimization into workflows.
• Build and maintain Python-driven automation for hardware control, data acquisition, and analysis.
• Operate and troubleshoot complex cryogenic and measurement systems for stability and uptime.
• Collaborate with measurement system teams to improve qubit control hardware and interconnects.
• Prepare technical presentations and analyses to communicate results and guide decisions.
• Shape experimental strategy through data-driven insights and solid technical judgment.
