Job summary

AlgaeCal is hiring a Lead QA Developer to ensure our React storefront and internal middleware meet high reliability standards. You’ll lead automation efforts, architect scalable test strategies, and drive faster, more trustworthy releases across Shopify Hydrogen storefronts and backend systems.

You’ll mentor QA engineers, own test quality metrics, and partner with product and engineering to deliver robust, scalable quality engineering capabilities that improve overall product stability and

Qualifications

• 5+ years of QA development experience with automated testing strategies
• 2+ years of leadership, mentorship, or coaching experience
• Ability to guide other QA developers, review work, and raise technical standards
• Strong command of JavaScript and TypeScript
• Comfort writing, reviewing, and improving automated tests in a modern JS/TS environment
• Hands-on experience with Cypress, Playwright, or similar tools
• Know-how to architect, optimize, and scale automated testing frameworks across storefronts and middleware
• Experience with Shopify Hydrogen storefront and middleware
• Experience integrating automated tests into cloud-based CI/CD pipelines
• Focus on quality metrics like automation coverage, pipeline stability, and defect leakage
• Curiosity and willingness to dig; bonus for Python, PHP, Figma, Storybook, Jest

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain scalable automated testing frameworks
• Improve CI/CD integration and test feedback speed
• Reduce flaky tests and improve reporting at scale
• Define KPIs and actionable quality metrics for teams
• Mentor and grow QA developers for higher technical standards
• Collaborate across frontend storefronts and backend middleware
• Influence testing strategy for Shopify Hydrogen storefronts and integrations
