Job summary

State of Washington’s Economic Services Administration, Community Services Division, seeks a Public Benefits Specialist 4, Leadworker in Tacoma for a full-time role. You will lead a team of PBS staff processing cash, medical, and food benefits, audit cases, and coach on policy interpretation and eligibility rules.

You will establish workflows, review overpayments, and support clients through their applications while collaborating with colleagues and community partners.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Washington Administrative Code (WAC) and eligibility rules.
• Experience interpreting complex eligibility determinations.
• Ability to manage a high‑volume workload and meet deadlines.
• Experience training and coaching staff for accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Lead and monitor Public Benefits Specialist staff processing cash, food, and medical benefits.
• Provide guidance on eligibility determinations and policy interpretation.
• Conduct audits and case reviews to ensure accuracy and training needs.
• Verify overpayments and coordinate referrals to Financial Recovery.
• Coach staff to ensure program compliance and professional development.
• Review procedures to maintain efficient workflows and service quality.
• Resolve eligibility concerns and support hearings and case resolution.
