Job summary

SEIU Committee of Interns and Residents (CIR) in the Western region is seeking a Lead Public Affairs and Communications Coordinator to develop and execute strategic communications, media relations, and public affairs campaigns. The role focuses on advancing CIR members’ voices, labor goals, and healthcare justice across California, Washington (Seattle area), and New Mexico.

The ideal candidate brings strong writing, media relations, and strategic communications skills, with experience in labor

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Political Science, Public Policy, Journalism, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience in political communications, public affairs, advocacy, labor organizing, healthcare, government, or issue-based campaigns; union labor organizing a must.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills with high-quality communications materials.
  • Ability to translate complex policy, healthcare, and legislative issues into clear messages.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute strategic communications plans supporting CIR’s political, legislative, and community campaigns.
  • Create political messaging and media tactics across earned, paid, shared, and owned media.
  • Serve as a strategic partner to the Political and Community Affairs teams; shape campaign strategy.
  • Draft press releases, statements, op-eds, talking points, and other communications materials.
  • Identify opportunities to elevate CIR members in traditional and new media.
  • Prepare members for media interviews, testimony, events, and digital storytelling.
