Job summary

Walden Robotics seeks a senior machinist and fabricator to stand up and run a prototyping lab, a hands-on space for CNC and manual milling, 3D printing, laser cutting, and electronics assembly. You will own equipment, tooling, and materials, keeping engineers’ prototype builds fast and reliable.

You will lead shop operations, mentor technicians, and scale the lab as the company grows, partnering with hardware engineering and robot operations daily.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in a machine shop or fabrication lab with CNC and manual machining.
• Able to read drawings and GD&T; maintain tight tolerances.
• Experience with rapid prototyping equipment and laser cutting.
• Experience running a shop end to end: procurement, maintenance, inventory, safety.
• Ability to train and supervise technicians and engineers.

Responsibilities

• Own the prototyping lab end to end and keep hardware teams unblocked.
• Run CNC and manual milling/turning, with setups, fixturing, and tooling.
• Maintain 3D printers, materials, and consumables for rapid parts production.
• Fabricate and modify parts from engineering drawings, inspect work.
• Procure, install, and maintain lab equipment and materials.
• Establish lab safety programs and manage training and checkout.
• Partner with Facilities on space planning and utilities; manage EHS.
• Own lab inventory, stock levels, and supplier relationships.
• Mentor engineers and technicians; hire and scale prototyping staff.
