Job summary

Boswell Engineering, Inc. in South Hackensack, NJ, seeks a Protection & Control (P&C) Design Engineer to lead and execute protection and control designs for electric utility clients.

The role covers transmission and distribution systems, from planning through field deployment, with a focus on reliability and safety. The candidate will develop relay settings, perform coordination studies, coordinate with planning and operations, manage projects with contractors, and contribute to root-cause

Qualifications

• BS/ MS in Electrical Engineering with PE license preferred (or able to obtain).
• 8+ years of Protection and Controls experience with major electric utilities substation design.
• Willingness to travel to client meetings and sites.

Responsibilities

• Review and evaluate proposed changes to existing electric facilities to ensure compatibility with client protection standards.
• Create new Protection and Control system designs per client standards.
• Specify materials for new or modified Protection and Control systems for projects.
• Develop, calculate, and document relay settings and logic for protective relays, logic processors, feeder reclosers, and switches.
• Perform coordination studies using fault simulation software.
• Analyze protection operations during disturbances and assist in root-cause investigations.
• Lead cross-functional teams to drive technical decisions for substation capital projects.
• Manage work requests and evaluate outsourced proposals.
• Oversee technical implementation across phases from design to field execution.
• Interface with Planning, Operations and Field personnel.
