Job summary

The United Illuminating Company in Orange, CT seeks a Principal Engineer to lead protection & control design, analysis and project delivery for its electric delivery infrastructure in New England and New York. You will mentor engineers, review protection system designs, and coordinate with vendors and contractors while ensuring compliance with NESC, FERC, NERC, and related standards.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering / Technology with 10+ years of relevant experience.
Registered Professional Engineer or ability to obtain certification.
Advanced knowledge of power system analysis and protection fundamentals.
Familiar with national/international standards and compliance (NERC, FERC, NPCC, NYISO, ISO-NE, NYPSC, ME PUC, CT PUC).

Responsibilities

Perform engineering design, estimating and analysis of protection systems for transmission and substations.
Review and approve protection system designs and contractor work to ensure standards compliance.
Develop technical specifications, contracts and purchase orders; direct contractors.
Analyze fault events and provide clear fault analysis reports with corrective actions.
Manage compliance programs, act as SME during audits, and mentor junior engineers.
