Job summary

Ursa Major is seeking a Staff Analysis Engineer to provide technical leadership in structural and thermal-fluid analyses for aerospace vehicles and propulsion systems. You will lead verification and validation activities, improve analysis methods, and mentor junior engineers, with remote or Berthoud, Colorado option.

Qualifications

  • S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related field.
  • ~10+ years of structural and/or thermal- fluids analysis experience on vehicles and/or propulsion systems.
  • Strong background in structural mechanics and/or fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer.
  • Experience with FEA/FEM using ANSYS, Abaqus, NASTRAN-based solvers.
  • Experience anchoring analytical and/or fluid models to physical test data.
  • Fatigue and fracture experience (e.g., HCF SN, LCF e-N, LEFM).
  • Experience in CFD and/or 1D fluid modeling using commercial and/or lumped-parameter tools.
  • Programming in Python preferred; MATLAB acceptable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in a fast-paced startup environment.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate designs through static, dynamic, fatigue, and/or fracture analyses to meet performance and life objectives.
  • Develop FEM/FEA models for vehicles and propulsion systems; propagate loads.
  • Perform thermal-structural and/or coupled analyses, including nonlinear materials.
  • Anchor models to test data; work with test teams to define instrumentation.
  • Use CFD and/or hand calculations to assess fluid behavior in engine and vehicle systems.
  • Build steady-state/transient 1D fluid models for system states and transients.
  • Collaborate with design, systems, and manufacturing to meet requirements and disposition nonconforming hardware.
  • Support failure investigations through modeling and root-cause analysis.
  • Improve analysis methods and tools; mentor team members.
