Job summary

WSP in Northwest Arkansas is seeking a Project Archaeologist to lead heritage and cultural resources projects. You will direct field teams on surveys and excavations, interact with clients and landowners, and collaborate with tribal monitors to support compliance with state and federal regulations.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, Historic Preservation, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of post-education experience in Section 106/110 compliance or CRM archaeology (Arkansas, Midwest, Southeast).
  • Strong understanding of regulatory framework for heritage resource management.
  • Excellent technical writing skills.
  • Experience with Midwest and Southeast archaeology.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for scientific and non-scientific audiences.
  • Ability to lead and mentor junior team members with QA/QC.
  • Developed critical thinking and problem-solving to analyze data and guide decisions.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and company policies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead heritage and cultural resource projects.
  • Direct field teams on archaeological surveys and excavations.
  • Assist with development and scoping of medium-sized projects.
  • Interact with clients, landowners, contractors, and tribal monitors.
  • Assist regulatory and historical preservation agencies and subcontractors professionally.
  • Prepare cultural resources reports, data entry, impact assessments, and permitting tasks.
  • Remain current in latest archaeological methods and techniques.
  • Ensure QA/QC and ethical use of company funds and resources.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
