Job summary

Leonardo DRS Land Electronics in Huntsville, AL is seeking a Principal Product Engineer to anchor technical execution across the lifecycle, from concept through sustainment, balancing cost, schedule, and design intent.

You will mentor engineers, lead collaborations with manufacturing, supply chain, quality, and program management, and shape the people and processes behind the product to ensure readiness and long-term sustainment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science (or higher) in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
• Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in complex system design and defense environments.
• Ability to independently lead technical teams and direct the work of other engineers.
• Experience across requirements, architecture, design, integration, test, and production transition.
• Strong communication with customers, program management, suppliers, and cross-functional partners.
• Knowledge of DFx methodologies (Design for Manufacturability, Design for Testability, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Serve as the go-to SME when engineering meets the production floor, resolving build, test, and process issues in real time.
• Lead cross-functional communication across manufacturing, supply chain, program management, quality, and the customer.
• Shape high-stakes proposals, bringing technical credibility to pursuit of new and complex work.
• Mentor engineers, building bench strength and technical depth across the team.
• Guide technical teams in analysis, documentation, test support, and risk reduction activities.
• Support qualification testing, conformance inspection, design verification, and formal validation efforts.
• Drive product transition into production in partnership with NPI, Manufacturing, Assembly and Test, and Operations teams.
• Lead root cause investigations, failure analysis, and corrective actions for product, supplier, and field issues.
• Represent product engineering objectives and status in engineering, customer, and business meetings.
• Support product retirement and disposal activities in accordance with program and regulatory requirements.
