Job summary

Newell Brands is seeking a Manager, Product Development for Home Appliances in Huntersville, NC. The role leads NPD projects from concept to production, mentoring junior engineers and leveraging AI-enabled design tools to accelerate innovation while maintaining quality.

You will partner with PM, Marketing, Design, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Quality, and Supply Chain to deliver high-quality appliances that meet cost and performance targets. Some travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Plastics/Mechatronics Engineering or related field.
• 6-10 years of product development experience, including mentoring others.
• Strong interpersonal and program management skills to guide projects through the NPD Gate process.
• Hands-on prototyping, design validation and testing experience.
• Excellent communication skills and openness to AI-assisted design tools.

Responsibilities

• Develop innovative products meeting customer expectations and compliance standards.
• Lead multiple NPD projects through Stage/Gate process with defined timelines and milestones.
• Translate consumer needs into clear technical specifications.
• Generate Engineering Product Specifications and lead DFMEA, DVP&R and Quality Specification.
• Build test plans and partner with internal and external labs to validate designs.
• Draft and review ECNs, lead design/technical reviews, and review CAD with crossfunctional teams.
• Generate basic CAD using AI-assisted design tools to move ideas to prototypes.
• Conduct IP searches and coordinate with legal on IP clearance and filings.
• Review manufacturing trial results, testing data and PPAP documentation; drive design or process changes.
• Benchmark competitive products and identify design opportunities.
• Collaborate to ensure safety, manufacturability and reliability of designs.
• Apply materials/manufacturing process knowledge including injection molding to guide decisions.
• Provide input into project/budgets and cost tracking; understand financial trade-offs.
• Guide day-to-day technical development of one to two junior engineers or co-ops.
