Job summary

Jobtailor seeks an experienced analytics engineer to lead the design and delivery of production dashboards using Looker, Tableau, Power BI, Metabase, or equivalent tools. You will own semantic data models and metrics across events, cohorts, funnels, and retention, and craft robust ETL/ELT pipelines with dbt, Airflow, or Beam.

You will partner with product and engineering to define event schemas, ensure data quality, and monitor metric health, while mentoring juniors and driving actionable

Qualifications

• 8+ years in analytics engineering, data engineering, or applied analytics with product-focused experience.
• Proficient with SQL and a modern analytics stack, including a data warehouse such as Snowflake, dbt or similar, and a BI tool.
• Strong ETL/ELT design, data modeling (star/snowflake/semantic layers), and production-grade pipeline development.
• Ability to partner with product teams and translate product goals into measurable metrics and dashboards.
• Clear storytelling with data; ability to present findings to non-technical stakeholders and influence product direction.
• Experience establishing data QA, lineage, and monitoring practices.
• Preferred: Python or Scala for data engineering, Airflow, Kafka, or streaming experience.
• Preferred: familiarity with metric governance, metric stores, and versioned dbt projects.
• Preferred: insurance industry experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and delivery of interactive, production-grade dashboards using Looker, Mode, Tableau, Metabase, Power BI, or equivalent tools
• Own semantic data models and metrics, including events, user cohorts, funnels, and retention
• Design, implement, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines using dbt, Airflow, Beam, or equivalent tools
• Partner with product and engineering teams to define event schemas, validate data quality, and implement monitoring and alerting for metric regressions
• Serve as a trusted analytics partner to product managers, designers, and engineers
• Translate product questions into analytics requirements and deliverables
• Optimize queries, dashboards, and pipelines for performance and cost at scale
• Mentor junior analysts and engineers
• Define standards for metrics, documentation, and reproducible analyses
• Provide quantitative support, market understanding, and strategic perspective to organizational partners
• Make critical recommendations for Engineering and Product Management
