Job Summary
Working on both projects and bid proposals, the Process Engineer is responsible for the process design of equipment systems, or parts thereof.
Principal Duties And Responsibilities
- Develop a process design that meets the requirements of the proposal or project.
- Ensure design‑phase outputs are delivered in line with time schedules and quality requirements.
- Provide technical support regarding process design aspects throughout project and bid lifecycles.
- Undertake other technical tasks as required (e.g., site surveys, feasibility studies, support to sales).

Safety & Environment
- Ensure plant designs are safe and that environmental impacts are appropriately considered.
- Participate in relevant reviews and ensure resultant actions are completed.
- Ensure compliance with local legislation and regulations.
- Act safely, especially when operating outside the office environment.

Process Design Tasks
- Generate process solutions and define their characteristics in terms of flow sheets, P&ID diagrams, equipment specifications, lists, descriptions, functional design specifications, operating instructions, KPIs, product requirements, and utilities requirements.
- Adhere to company procedures and design standards.
- Complete design calculations (pipe diameter sizing, pump sizing, thermal calculations, etc.).
- Ensure tasks are completed according to the project schedule, quality standards, and budget.

Design Ownership
- Own the design you are responsible for and execute it in line with legislation, customer contractual requirements, and internal standards.
- Ensure design outputs are complete, consistent, and documented using common standards.
- Integrate scope elements/sub‑systems coherently and define external interfaces.
- Consider economic factors to keep the project on budget.

Communication & Team Working
- Engage in technical discussions with customers and suppliers.
- Attend project or proposal meetings (launch, progress, design reviews).
- Communicate information to stakeholders in a timely manner.
- Support other disciplines during the design phase to achieve deliverables (supply chain, mechanical design, automation & electrical design).
- Assist Installation & Commissioning teams during site execution (communicate design intent, highlight critical installation requirements, resolve design issues, support acceptance testing and KPI trials).
- Assist with hand‑over of design information to the Aftermarket team.

Documentation
- Prepare process operating instructions.
- Store and maintain design information in a structured and accessible way.
- Compile operating & maintenance manuals, including spares lists.
- Assist in compiling technical files as required by legislation (e.g., EU Machinery Directive).

Additional Sales Support & Proposals Tasks
- Attend pre‑contact customer meetings to provide technical support to the sales team.
- Undertake pre‑contract studies (feasibility, plant utilisation, site surveys).
- Review technical aspects of quotation text.
Lead Engineer
- Lead a multidisciplinary team to deliver overall design outputs for the scope package.
- Establish and lead engineering team meetings and discussions.
- Generate and maintain a time schedule for the engineering phase.
- Identify and communicate resource needs.
- Manage team members to meet schedule demands and stay on budget.
- Set and enforce consistent design and documentation standards.
- Ensure required reviews and meetings are completed and actions are closed out.
- Ensure team compliance with company processes and procedures.
Engineering Community Member
- Provide general technical support and act as a subject‑matter expert where appropriate.
- Assist colleagues in areas where they lack experience.
- Support projects and proposals beyond direct responsibilities (conceptual guidance, quotation reviews, external expert reviews).
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives (tools development, standardisation).
- Document and communicate lessons learned and best practices.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Fluent in English (spoken and written).
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a matrixed environment.
- Ability and willingness to build relationships across functions and geographically diverse sites.
- Good analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Initiative and ability to work independently.
- Commitment to high performance standards in a team while maintaining ethics and integrity.
Education And Experience
- Degree in an appropriate engineering discipline (e.g., Process, Chemical, Mechanical).
- 8–10 years of engineering design experience in dairy, food, beverage, pharmaceutical or other hygienic industries.
- Understanding of hygienic design principles for process engineering.
- Experience with or understanding of clean‑in‑place (CIP) systems.
- Experience leading a technically oriented team.
- Full driving licence is a strong advantage.
- Competence with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- AutoCAD experience is beneficial.
- SAP experience is beneficial.
Physical Demands
The role is office‑based with significant time spent at a computer. Travel to SPX locations and customer sites is required, with occasional extended away‑from‑office work. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.

Salary
Anticipated salary range: $100,200 / yr to $139,260 / yr. The actual salary will depend on qualifications and experience.
