Job summary

BW Design Group in Oak Brook, IL seeks a Sr. Process Engineer to lead design‑build projects in the food and beverage sectors, focusing on process design, automation, and startup support.

You will drive design integration, equipment selection, and vendor coordination with a skilled team of professionals. This role requires strong project management, collaboration with clients, and willingness to travel for project requirements.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7 years of industrial project engineering experience involving process and related automation applications.
  • Experience in food, dairy, beverage/brewery, or personal care industries is highly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of process flow diagrams, piping & instrument diagrams, mass & heat balances, basic piping system design, pump sizing, material handling methods, equipment and functional & installation specifications, as well as process instrumentation & control principles.
  • Sanitary design and construction methods knowledge is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement integrated process‑related projects, including design, equipment selection and installation specifications, vendor/contractor management.
  • Manage all aspects of integrated design‑build process‑related projects in the range of $2MM to $10MM.
  • Oversee proposal development, client presentations, project teams, budgets, forecasting, and site management.
  • Travel as necessary for project requirements and start‑up activities.

What You’ll Do

You will work individually and in teams to support capital projects and implement solutions for our clients, helping them make critical changes to improve their performance and achieve their most important goals.

  • Responsible for the design and implementation of integrated process‑related projects, including design, process equipment selection and installation specifications, vendor and contractor management, process electrical/control and instrumentation design integration, as well as construction management and start‑up support.
  • Responsible for managing all aspects of integrated design‑build process‑related projects in the range of $2 MM to $10 MM.
  • Accountable for all aspects of client development and project execution, including proposal development and presentations, project team leadership, project budgets and forecasting, vendor/contractor management, equipment procurement, schedule management, project engineering, and site management/installation support.
  • Make an impact day‑to‑day with your skills and expertise, strengthening that relationship with our clients and team.
What You’ll Bring
  • Minimum of 7 years of industrial project engineering experience involving process and related automation applications.
  • Experience in the food, dairy, beverage/brewery, or personal care industries is highly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of process flow diagrams, piping & instrument diagrams, mass & heat balances, basic piping system design, pump sizing, material handling methods, equipment and functional & installation specifications, as well as process instrumentation & control principles.
  • Practical understanding of sanitary design and construction methods and knowledge of process electrical/control and instrumentation design integration is preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills, basic understanding of project management fundamentals, and strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, & AutoCAD).
  • Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; a self‑starter capable of working with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as necessary for project requirements, including but not limited to: project installation and start‑up activities, client meetings, company‑sponsored meetings, trainings, industry‑related seminars, forums, or conventions.
  • BS in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering is preferred but other engineering degrees may be considered based on relevant experience.

The approximate pay range for this position is $120 K – $160 K. This is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting; final compensation may vary based on factors such as background, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as geographic location.
