Job summary

QuantumScape Battery, Inc. is seeking a Principal Process Development Engineer to advance Cobra ceramic separator manufacturing processes in a hands-on R&D setting. You will design experiments and guide processes from prototype to production tooling, shaping the long-term roadmap and scale-up strategy.

You will lead data analysis and hardware improvements, interfacing with mechanical and controls engineers to deliver robust solutions. On-site work is required.

Qualifications

• PhD in engineering or science with 6+ years industrial process R&D experience.
• Experience in materials characterization techniques (XRD, SEM, FIB, EDS).
• Hands-on troubleshooting of mechanical systems, preferably processing equipment.
• Proficient CAD with SolidWorks or Inventor.
• Statistical analysis using JMP or Python.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute experiments for fabricating ceramic films on prototype heat treatment equipment.
• Analyze materials characterization data, prepare reports, and recommend process/hardware improvements.
• Suggest and evaluate hardware modifications to existing processing equipment.
• Bring up and transfer processes to new production equipment.
• Identify potential failure modes and develop robust mitigation strategies.
