Job summary

Maymont Foundation in Richmond, Virginia, seeks an on-site event lead to coordinate weddings, conferences, and weekend events ensuring smooth setup, execution, and breakdown. You will support part-time staff, clients, caterers, and vendors to deliver exceptional experiences.

The role requires a high school diploma, customer service experience in events, and flexibility for nights, weekends, and holidays. A valid driver’s license and the ability to pass a background check are required.

Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate professionally in fast-paced, high-demand situations.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation to Maymont.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as on-site lead during weddings, conferences, and weekend events to ensure smooth execution of setup and breakdown.
  • Provide on-site support to part-time staff, wedding/corporate clients, caterers, contracted entertainment, and internal departments for a smooth execution.
  • Act as primary point of contact for part-time staff and clients, addressing issues or last-minute changes such as callouts, weather disruptions, or emergencies.
  • Assist with post-event reporting, feedback collection, and administrative tasks including client tours, rental layouts, Master Calendar management, venue and equipment tracking, and setup coordination.
  • Build relationships with clients, vendors and team members to support event success.
  • Provide backup support for event sales and rental operations.
  • Monitor assigned areas for safety, cleanliness, and compliance with Maymont policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with Security, Event Operations, and Guest Experience leadership to promptly address and resolve guest concerns.
  • Assist with pre-event preparation and post-event breakdown as assigned.

Maymont is a 100-acre historic estate and park, located in Richmond, Virginia, with many unique experiences for all to enjoy, including the historic Maymont Mansion, The Robins Nather Center, arboretum, formal gardens, and habitats for native Virginia wildlife and farm animals. Since 1975, Maymont has been maintained and operated by the nonprofit Maymont Foundation, committed to creating experiencers that delight, educate, and inspire its guests.

Key Responsibilities

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Customer service experience in events, hospitality, or a similar guest‑facing environment.
  • Team leadership/management preferred but not required.
  • Ability to professionally and courteously communicate during fast‑paced and high‑demands situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and collaborate within and across teams.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts including nights, weekends, special events and holidays, in addition to weekday availability.
  • Basic computer competency required (MS Office, web‑based software).
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Valid driver’s license required with reliable transportation to/from Maymont.
Physical Demands
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, and talking for extended periods.
  • Frequent climbing, bending, stooping, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work inside and outside in all weather conditions.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Salary: $23.00 / hour
