Job summary

Leidos seeks a Principal Systems Engineer (Lead) to join the Air Traffic Business Area, supporting the Leidos Common Automation Platform (L-CAP). You will lead cross-ART systems engineering, govern requirements, interfaces, integration, and safety analyses for mission-critical air traffic software.

Hybrid role based in Gaithersburg, MD; Egg Harbor Township, NJ; or Eagan, MN, requiring 3 days onsite and 2 days remote. US citizenship and ability to obtain a Public Trust are prerequisites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 12+ years or master's with 10+ years or equivalent experience.
• Systems engineering leadership for large-scale programs.
• Requirements management including decomposition/allocation.
• Verification and validation planning/execution at enterprise level.
• Interface management across multiple subsystems and teams.
• MBSE and SysML modeling for complex architectures.
• System integration planning for distributed platforms.
• Safety-critical systems engineering incl. hazard analysis.
• Aviation or defense domain systems engineering experience.
• DOORS or Jama or similar requirements tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead cross-program systems engineering activities across four ARTs.
• Establish and govern requirements management processes and standards.
• Define and manage interface control documents and integration specs.
• Develop verification and validation strategy and plans.
• Maintain requirements traceability from stakeholder needs to implementation.
• Lead system integration planning and execution across the platform.
• Conduct safety analysis including hazard identification and mitigation.
• Support certification activities and regulatory compliance evidence.
• Define and enforce SE process standards and best practices.
• Lead technical reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR).
• Ensure cross-ART architectural consistency with shared standards.
• Lead modernization planning and decomposition sequencing.
• Govern interfaces between legacy and modernized services.
• Champion AI-assisted development capabilities to improve productivity and quality.
