Job summary

The Primary Care Physician at the Tennessee Valley Health Care System serves as a practicing physician responsible for the overall management of patients enrolled for healthcare services. The role includes leadership of the PACT and administrative duties within the clinic environment.

Applicants must have an MD, licensed to practice in the US, completed residency in a core specialty, and hold or be eligible for board certification.

Qualifications

  • United States Citizenship required; non-citizens may be considered only under VA policy.
  • MD degree from an approved school.
  • Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the US.
  • Residency training approved by VA or equivalent; board eligibility.
  • Alternate pathways include post-medical school training with defined practice requirements.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate care for a panel of outpatients as assigned by TVHS.
  • Evaluate and treat acute and chronic health problems in clinic.
  • Perform histories and physical exams with thorough documentation.
  • Prescribe medications and order routine laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  • Lead and mentor nurse practitioners/physician assistants and serve as a preceptor.
