Job summary

The Nature Conservancy in South Carolina seeks a SC Coast Burn Crew Manager to lead prescribed fire operations across Piney forests and other terrains. You will supervise three seasonal technicians, coordinate with state fire staff, and oversee planning, equipment, and safety on burns.

This role requires NWCG qualifications, strong supervision, willingness to travel, and a commitment to training and professional development.

Qualifications

Qualified Fire Fighter Type 1 (Squad Boss) with FFT1 task book.
Ability to achieve a NWCG arduous wildland firefighter rating (45 lb pack, 3 miles in <45 minutes).
Experience supervising staff or volunteers is required.
Experience operating and maintaining equipment (4WD, Type-6 engines, ATVs/UTVs, chainsaws, drip torch).
Willingness to travel extensively and occasional weekend work.
Ability to perform physical work under adverse conditions.
Must provide lace-up leather boots, minimum 8 inches height.
Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record.

Responsibilities

Lead the Burn Crew and monitor progress toward fire management goals.
Handle administrative duties including time and expense tracking, equipment repair, and purchasing supplies.
Serve as a key decision maker on the fire line based on fire behavior and available resources.
Stay current with burn techniques and maintain professional fire certification credentials.
Assist on other fire operations with partners and travel as needed.
