Job summary

Westport Weston Family YMCA is seeking a Head Teacher for the preschool program. You will provide classroom leadership, support teaching quality, and ensure a safe, nurturing environment for children ages three to five.

Work with staff and administration to promote positive family relationships and high-quality programming that reflects the YMCA values. You will mentor teachers, coordinate staffing, and ensure supervision while adhering to CT licensing and YMCA policies.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of childcare experience.
• AS in ECE strongly preferred, or current enrollment in an ECE program.
• Supervisory experience preferred.
• Fluent in English; Spanish preferred.
• CPR/First Aid/AED certifications, or ability to obtain.
• Background checks and licensing requirements must be met.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to support diverse developmental needs.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily preschool classroom operations and provide direct care and instruction as assigned.
• Guide developmentally appropriate curriculum planning aligned with CT standards.
• Maintain a safe, welcoming, inclusive classroom environment.
• Provide supervision and accurate child counts during activities and transitions.
• Maintain attendance records and sign-in/out procedures.
• Mentor Lead and Assistant Teachers; support onboarding and feedback.
• Coordinate staffing with Assistant Director to ensure supervision.
• Support family communication and positive YMCA relationships.
