Job summary

YMCA of Greater New York is seeking a Head Teacher for a Universal Pre-K or Universal 3K classroom at the South Shore YMCA in New York City. The role plans and implements a developmentally appropriate curriculum to support social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth, including assessments and family engagement.

You will supervise and coach Assistant Teachers and Activity Specialists, ensure safety and high-quality instruction, and maintain program documentation in line with DOH and NYSED

Qualifications

• Level I/II/III NYSED approved licensure requirements for early childhood.
• Teaching license or certificate as per NYSED regulations.
• Experience with developmentally appropriate instruction is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure health, safety, and well-being of children in the program.
• Plan engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons and activities.
• Develop classroom centers aligned with ongoing curriculum.
• Facilitate student assessments and growth tracking.
• Engage parents/guardians and communicate progress regularly.
• Supervise and support assistant teachers and volunteers.
• Maintain a clean, safe classroom and accurate documentation.
• Adhere to YMCA, DOH, and NYSED guidelines.
