Job summary

The YMCA of Greater New York is seeking a Head Teacher for a Universal Pre-K/3K classroom at the Flatbush YMCA in Brooklyn. You will plan and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum that supports social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.

You will supervise and support Assistant Teachers and Activity Specialists within the Center and YMCA branch. Requirements include a Bachelor's or Master’s in Early Childhood and a NYSED teaching license or certificate, plus at least

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Early Childhood with a DOH-approved plan to obtain a teaching license within 12 months.
• NYSED licenses/certifications required for early childhood grades (Birth-Grade 2 or Pre-K-6).
• Minimum three years of experience with early childhood-aged children in a group setting.

Responsibilities

• Ensure health, safety, and well-being of children with close supervision.
• Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lessons and activities.
• Develop classroom centers aligned with the ongoing curriculum.
• Facilitate student assessments and growth documentation.
• Engage with families to support child development and communicate regularly.
• Encourage parent participation in events and volunteering.
• Collaborate with YMCA staff and supervise assistants and specialists.
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe classroom environment.
• Maintain program documentation and accurate records.
• Adhere to YMCA, DOH, and DOE guidelines as applicable.
• Participate in meetings, trainings, and special events.
